Eleven seized in triple swoop on Canterbury P labs

8:00 pm on 9 June 2010

Police have swooped on what they say could be Canterbury's largest-ever commercial methamphetamine operation.

More than 150 police and members of the armed offenders squad searched for P labs in Christchurch, Ashburton and Rangiora on Wednesday morning.

Three labs were found at three separate addresses, along with more than $20,000 and chemicals related to the manufacture of methamphetamine. Eleven people were arrested and will face drugs or firearms charges.

Detective Inspector Greg Williams says that he thinks the labs are connected and that they were being supplied with pseudoephedrine coming from outside the country.

Two weeks ago, police raided a lab that they say had enough material to make up to $400,000 worth of P.

Mr Williams says six or seven people are likely to be charged as an organised group with conspiracy to manufacture and distribute the drug.
