Phil Goff's pay boost is the biggest, in a nationwide increase for local body politicians of 1.7 percent.

Auckland's deputy mayor will get an extra $2500, rising to $154,000.

The city's 19 councillors will get an extra $1800, taking their pay to more than $107,000.

The Remuneration Authority said the rise was in line with movements in the public sector.

It was reviewing the structure of local body politicians pay, with any changes to be implemented in two years' time.
