State Highway 6 between Westport and Greymouth is closed following a slip at Meybille Bay.
The Transport Agency said motorists could take a detour inland, via Reefton.
It said an update on the road's status will be issued by midday.
And SH94, the only road to Milford Sound, is also closed due to snow.
