'Large' fire at Te Puke sawmill

Emergency services are battling a large blaze at a pine sawmill in Te Puke.

Fire and Emergency spokesperson Daniel Nicholson said six fire engines and two water tankers were called in at 6.05am.

He said the fire was burning strong at the 20m by 30m building at Pukepine Sawmill when firefighters arrived.

They had managed to knock it back and were dampening it down by about 7.30am.
