Corrosion cover for heat pumps urged - Consumer NZ

6:01 am on 20 June 2010

Consumer New Zealand says manufacturers should provide cover in heat pump warranties for corrosion caused by salt air and sulphur.

Most warranties exclude these environmental conditions which Consumer NZ says means people living on the coast or in geothermal areas, like Rotorua, are not covered.

Chief executive Sue Chetwin says heat pump installers should make sure people are aware of the conditions of the warranty.

But she says people are protected by the Consumer Guarantee Act even if the appliance is being used in areas excluded by the warranty.
