Name suppression extended for Gloriavale accused

6:20 pm on 3 October 2017

A man charged with historical sexual offences at the West Coast religious community of Gloriavale has had his name suppression extended.

The man, who is in his 40s, was arrested in September on two charges of unlawful sexual connection and two charges of indecent assault.

Police said that followed investigations into historic offending at the reclusive West Coast community.

The man first appeared in the Greymouth District Court last month and was granted interim name suppression.

He did not appear in court today but Judge Stephen O'Driscoll extended name suppression for another three weeks.

The man has been remanded until 14 October.
