The woman was home when a concrete truck smashed through her fences and into a neighbour's fence before hitting a house on Waterloo Road in Hornby.

Police said there were no injuries though both the truck driver and the person in the house were left shaken.

The woman, who did not want to be named, said she did not see the truck go through her fence, but she heard the noise and was startled by the loud bangs.

A contractor helping remove the concrete truck, Dominic Sutton, said the house had been slightly shifted off its foundations from the force of the truck, which would weigh about 20 tonnes with the concrete it had been carrying.

"We haven't done very much except for remove the concrete out of one truck and put it into another one, so it is lighter to move it off the poor gentleman's house," he said.

A man whose mother's home is next door said her garden had been completely destroyed by the truck.

The man said it wasn't clear how the truck driver had lost control.

The serious crash unit was on the scene and while the road was open, motorists were being asked to avoid the area.

Police were asking for witnesses.
