Muliaga family to sue over mother's death

The family of Folole Muliaga is to sue over her death.

Mrs Muliaga, 44, died on 29 May, 2007, after Mercury Energy cut the power to her house while she was on an oxygen machine.

A coroner ruled that the disconnection contributed to her death and criticised both Mercury Energy and the Counties Manukau District Health Board for their handling of the case.

A lawyer representing the family, Olinda Woodroffe says it was always their intention to sue, but the four children needed time to deal with their grief.

Mercury Energy gave the family $10,000 following her death, but Ms Woodroffe says that's nothing compared to the life of a person.
