12:04 pm on 20 November 2017

A man and his three sons who were overdue from a pig hunting trip in the Far North have been found safe and well.

Local hunters found the family just after 10.30am in Kaikohe.

Police said the father and his three boys - aged 10, 11 and 13 - are in good condition and are now at home.

Family members carried out their own search yesterday and found the man's vehicle, before reporting the group missing at 11pm.

Search teams were deployed to Tawata Lane, near Kaikohe.

A helicopter was not used in the search, as the bush was very thick, police said.
