Organisers of next year's Rugby World Cup have started notifying those who have secured tickets.

About 55,000 people worldwide have applied for 600,000 tickets in the first phase of sales, Rugby New Zealand 2011 says.

The organisation's marketing and communications manager, Shane Harmon, says confirmation letters for approved applications are going out.

Mr Harmon says there are also some applications, made up of several ticket packages, that have been partly approved.

Matches at Eden Park and for those involving the All Blacks are oversubscribed.

The organisers say some seating categories within other venue and team packs are also oversubscribed.
