Rail unions said the all-day strike planned for tomorrow had been cancelled after progress was made in collective negotiations.

Transdev management confirmed the rail strike had been cancelled.

Both had been in meetings all day in the presence of mediators from the labour service of the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment.

This followed many similar days and appeared to yield no results for most of the day.

The strike was still officially on at 4pm but management and unions confirmed this afternoon there had been a last-ditch settlement.

The details of the agreement are not yet known.

Unions held a 24-hour strike a fortnight ago over the negotiations, which have been at loggerheads for months.
