Mumps hits northern South Island

A case of suspected mumps has been notified in the Nelson-Marlborough region.

The DHB's locum medical officer of health Simon Baker said people who stayed at the Blue Moon Lodge in Havelock over Christmas, or at the Inlet Backpackers in Collingwood, may have been exposed to the disease.

Auckland has what its public health service calls an epidemic of mumps, and there have been concerns that it could spread as families move about the country during the holidays.
