Cutbacks to audio-visual linking of prisons and court

A new programme that would use audio-visual links in the country's courts is being halved due to cuts in the Justice Ministry's budget.

The Government only recently passed legislation on the measure linking prisons and courts, which would enable participants in trials to appear via video instead of in person.

Budget papers released by Treasury show that seven sets of equipment will now be installed instead of the planned 15.
