Hundreds of women met in Wellington today to mark one year since the Women's March - one of the largest global protests in history.

Women's March Aotearoa coincides with thousands of events across the globe last year, with millions of people taking part.

About 350 people were expected to attend today's event.

Watch a live stream of the event at the National Library of New Zealand:

Its keynote speaker, journalist and women's rights advocate, Alison Mau said the hui was also the first major event this year marking the 125th anniversary of Women's Suffrage.

"There are all sorts of things being discussed here today. From suffrage to equal pay to women's reproductive rights to the me too movement.

"It's kind of covering the gamut of women's issues and we're all really excited about it."

Mau said a panel discussion would be followed by a picnic in Parliament grounds and a tour of the suffrage documents in the National Library.

The panel was co-moderated by RNZ's Susie Ferguson.
