More than 4000 homes are without power around Christchurch due to an outage this afternoon.
The lines company Orion says the outage started about midday and effects 4468 homes.
The cause is being investigated but the power is not expected to be restored until 3pm today.
In the suburb of Hornby, the power outage has caused 14 intersections with traffic signals to be out in the area.
The ares affected are Broadfield, Halswell, Hei Hei, Hornby, Islington, Ladbrooks, Lansdowne, Lincoln, Marleys Hill, Prebbleton, Tai Tapu, Templeton and Westlake.
