A Kaikohe man is now facing a manslaughter charge over the death of another man in the Northland town.
Christopher Vujcich, 58, died in hospital on Saturday after he was injured at his home in Kowhai Street on Friday night.
A 21-year-old man was initially charged with wounding Mr Vujcich with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
But police have upgraded the charge to manslaughter on the basis of post-mortem results.
The man will appear in the Kaikohe District Court on Tuesday 30 January.
