It says it will ask the court to sell the Kingsland home of Penny Bright - who has not paid rates since 2007.

Auckland Council acting group chief financial officer Matthew Walker said the council got a judgement against Ms Bright back in January 2016 and now wanted to go ahead with the sale of the property.

He said while the council would have preferred not to reach this point, it needed to be fair to the thousands of Aucklanders who do pay their rates.
