Police have named the man who died at Auckland's Awhitu Regional Park on Sunday.
He was 40-year-old Imtiaz Aziz, 40, from Papakura.
Police said he was fishing with two children when he got caught by the incoming tide.
He died at the scene and the children were flown to Middlemore Hospital in a moderate condition after swallowing water.
The death has been referred to the coroner.
