6:00 pm on 16 July 2010

Police say they have made one of their most significant seizures of methamphetamine as the result of a year-long operation.

Five kilograms of the drug, worth about $5 million, has been seized in Auckland. Various addresses were searched at the same time.

Two kilograms of the precursor, known as ContacNT, worth about $500,000, has been seized along with firearms and about $236,000 in cash.

Six people have been arrested and will face charges.

Investigators say the offenders were involved in organised Asian crime, running importation and distribution networks of the drug.

Police say the arrests also relate to recent arrests in Waikato.
