Police were called to Dryden Lodge in the Auckland suburb on Tuesday, and found two bodies on their arrival.

Ms Ellwood - 39, of Auckland - had been missing for about a week.

The other body was that of 36-year-old Timothy Kerr Hamilton.

Police say the pair knew each other and they were not looking for anyone else in relation to the deaths.

One of the four floors of the property remained cordoned off this morning.

Residents at the lodge said they believed the pair had not been there long, and they were found by a staff member.

The resident said there were about 50 rooms in the building and a range of people lived there including recovering alcohol and drug addicts and recently released prisoners.

On the film and television website IMDB, Ms Ellwood is listed as appearing on New Zealand TV show Shortland Street in one episode in 2006.

However, a statement South Pacific Pictures said she did not appear on the show, and that the role was recast before she filmed anything.
