Live: Cyclone Hola brings gales, some flights cancelled

10:01 am on 12 March 2018

Cyclone Hola could disrupt some flights as heavy rain and severe gales is expected in the North Island.

Air New Zealand says Cyclone Hola could disrupt some North Island flights this afternoon.

Niwa forecaster Chris Brandolino said the Coromandel and Gisborne will be worst affected by Cyclone Hola today, but the worst of the storm is likely to miss New Zealand.

Rain is falling in the Far North and along the east coast past Whangarei.

The Coromandel Peninsula and Gisborne are most at risk of slips and flooding.

Heavy rain is also expected at the tail-end of rush hour in Auckland.

Mr Brandolino says by yesterday evening it was clear New Zealand would escape the worst of Hola's impact.
