A woman from Uruguay has appeared in court today after nearly $2 million worth of the class A drug was found in the bottom of her suitcases.
Customs said the 30-year-old arrived at Auckland Airport from Argentina yesterday.
They said she was arrested after officers found more than four kilograms of cocaine hidden in a false bottom in two pieces of her luggage.
The woman appeared in the Manukau District Court today charged with importing and possession for supply of the class A drug.
She faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
Meanwhile, a Canadian man has appeared in court charged with importing 18 kilograms of methamphetamine insde a consignment of printer toner cartridges.
The 28-year-old appeared in the Manukau District Court today and was remanded in custody to 4 April.
Customs say officers examined a consignment of a dozen cartridges sent via international mail from the United States last month and found drugs with a street value of up to 21 million dollars inside.
Customs acting investigations manager Michael Blades said the the man was arrested a rented property in Southeast Auckland on Wednesday evening.
