Senior Sergeant Paul Reeves said the body was discovered about 4pm on the banks of the Ashley River.

It's the same area that was scoured during the search for Emma Beattie.

The 20-year-old went missing in December.

Sergeant Reeves said police were running a training exercise for Search and Rescue staff.

He said a formal identification will be carried out.

The death has been referred to the Coroner.
