Shoppers get taste of te Reo

9:42 pm on 26 July 2010

Shoppers at Countdown, Woolworths and Foodtown supermarkets are getting taste of te Reo this week during Maori Language Week.

Company spokesperson Penny Newbigin says this year's theme, Te Mahi Kai, the Language of Food, fits well with the business, which operates 152 supermarkets nationwide.

She says the idea is to make te Reo part of every day life.

As well as Maori translations for common foods in the aisles and a cheery kia ora at the checkout, Māori translations of recipes, measurements and shopping lists have been sent to 1.4 million households.
