Police officer in hospital after attack in Hawke's Bay

8:07 pm on 27 July 2010

A police officer is in hospital with facial injuries after his radio was smashed into his face in Hawke's Bay.

Clive community constable, Alan Daly, stopped two people in a car northeast of Hastings, after being alerted to a possible stolen vehicle following a shoplifting spree in Napier.

Hastings Area Commander, Inspector Dean Clifford, says a man in the car king-hit Mr Daly from behind.

Mr Clifford says the second occupant, a woman, then stomped on him and hit him with the radio.

Two people have since been arrested.
