Lexus recalls cars as precaution

A fault that can lead to complete loss of steering control has forced the luxury car maker Lexus to recall all 123 of its LX470s from New Zealand roads.

Lexus says the fault has been detected in only four of the 80,000 such cars built worldwide between 2002 and 2007 and no problems have been reported here.

However, it says, it will replace the affected component free of charge as a precautionary measure.

Lexus says the impact of, say, striking a deep pothole could potentially disengage the steering shaft.
