Auckland lab testing review to begin

7:27 pm on 3 June 2010

The Government has announced its promised review into the way community laboratory testing changed hands in Auckland last year.

Two independent reviewers have been appointed to review the transition from Diagnostic Medlab to Labtests.

They are Waikato District Health Board chair Graeme Milne and Jens Mueller, an associate professor at Waikato Management School.

Labtests took over testing in September and had been under scrutiny after quality and safety issues were raised about its service.

Health Minister Tony Ryall says the review is not a witch hunt.

He says it is to ensure the health service can learn from the Auckland region's experience.
