A decision to reopen Cape Kidnappers has been delayed, after geologists warned the council that further rockfalls were likely following a second major slip last weekend.

The beach was closed two weeks ago after two walkers were hospitalised following a massive landslide.
In a statement, Hastings District Council said there was another large slip on 2 February, similar in size to the slip on 23 January 23, and a smaller slip the following day.
"Two people who were walking in the area on Saturday narrowly escaped being in the path of this second rockfall, and were very shaken," the statement said.
A geologist has warned the council that further rockfalls are likely, and the council has decided not to reopen vehicle and pedestrian access to Cape Kidnappers, along the beach from Clifton, until a geologist's report has been undertaken.
"On inspecting the site, the geologist engaged by the council warned there was a lot of loose material in the vicinity."
"Public safety is a priority, and people are urged to heed the signs that have been placed at the beach and stay away from the area until further notice."
