Education Minister Anne Tolley has dissolved the board of trustees of Selwyn College in Auckland, citing differences between board members and the community.
Ms Tolley has directed the secretary of education to appoint a commissioner to replace the board after a report from the Education Review Office.
She says the office is not confident that the board has sufficient capacity, without outside help, to govern in the interests of students and the Crown.
Ms Tolley says enrolments at Selwyn College have been declining, and many local families are opting not to send their children to the school.
