Christchurch is being invaded by street performers for the next 10 days for an annual buskers festival.
Two comedy shows started the event on Thursday night and 47 international and national acts will perform around the city.
Festival director Jodi Wright says the event draws thousands of visitors, giving the economy a boost of $1.3 million.
She says the council is negotiating with the Festival Trust to keep the event in Christchurch.
