A 36-year-old Hamilton woman has appeared in court over her alleged part in the kidnapping of a Hamilton boy in August 2006.

The woman was extradited from Australia and appeared in the Hamilton District Court on Tuesday charged with kidnapping.

She was granted interim name suppression and released on bail to reappear later this month.

The woman is the sixth person charged after a six-year-old boy was taken from central Hamilton and kept in hiding for five months.

The boy's mother was sentenced to home detention and community work and his grandfather received home detention for abducting the boy.

One other person received community work and supervision and two people in Northland were jailed.
