Five people were arrested after a chase involving a stolen car through Waikato early on Sunday.
Police say officers tried to stop a stolen car shortly after midnight in Cambridge, but it took off towards Te Awamutu.
An ensuing chase reached speeds of more than 160km an hour.
Road spikes were used but the car was driven on its wheel rims until it was eventually stopped on the outskirts of Hamilton.
Three males and two females aged between 17 and 21 will appear in court on Monday on a number of charges.
