A proposed Maori cemetery in Invercargill is being opposed by some residents who say it will devalue neighbouring properties.
However, rather than devaluing the surrounding properties, Michael Skerritt, from Waihopai Runaka Holdings Ltd says the urupa will enhance the area.
Waatea News reports the site was already set aside for a cemetery reserve. Mr Skerrit says the company received consent to develop the section last August.
