Sweltering temperatures are believed to be behind a rise in health problems in Auckland.

The Auckland District Health Board says its Emergency Department is busier than normal, especially with heat-related illnesses.

The health board says there have been increases in everything from minor trauma to infectious diseases, with a particular rise in the number of people with kidney stones.

There has also been an increase in those suffering from food poisoning and alcohol-related problems.
