Police investigating the homicide of a Christchurch woman have released a description of a man seen driving in the area she was working on the night she was killed.

The body of Mellory Manning, 27, was found in the Avon River on 19 December.

Police say a witness has provided a description of the driver of a black four-wheel-drive who had been speaking to prostitutes in Manchester Street the previous night.

The man is described as European, in his late 30s, with tattooed forearms and very short hair. He was wearing blue jeans and a grey sweatshirt.

A dark coloured four-wheel-drive was also seen in Avonside drive where a splash was heard later that night.
