Irrigation ban lifted on Hawke's Bay river

8:26 pm on 12 February 2009

Hawke's Bay Regional Council has lifted an irrigation ban on one of the region's major rivers.

With rivers and streams very low, farmers were banned from taking water to irrigate crops, but steady rain this week has boosted the level of the Tukituki River.

Irrigation bans remain on nine other rivers and streams.

Meanwhile, representatives from the regional and district councils and the district health board are looking at a short-term water solution for the community of Bridge Pa, southwest of Hastings.

Some households are without water after their bores ran dry.
