Busking bagpiper agrees to keep it brief

A compromise has been reached between the Dunedin City Council and a busking bagpiper who was silenced after three noise complaints - one from a council staff member.

Student and accomplished bagpiper Simon McLean has busked in the Edinburgh of the South for six years without any problems - until last week.

The 21-year-old says he has now reached an agreement with the council to keep his busking sessions in Dunedin to about 15 minutes instead of half an hour.

Mr McLean says the whole affair is a bit ridiculous, and he will probably spend more time walking than playing now.

He says he has had many messages of support from tourists and locals.
