The Fire Service says a severe rain storm hit the town of Ohope near Whakatane in the early hours of Thursday morning, causing minor flooding.
Roads were affected by the deluge, and the Fire Service was called out to five homes to pump out water from basements.
The Fire Service says the localised rainstorm storm happened about 1am on Thursday and the water was cleaned up within a couple of hours.
