Police in Wellington say they were pleased with crowd behaviour at the Cuba St Carnival parade on Saturday night.
People stood six deep in central city streets to watch the event.
Inspector Simon Perry says 56 people were arrested for relatively minor offences such as offensive behaviour, assault and breach of the liquor ban.
Given the number of people in the city, he says the police were pleased with the night.
