The armed offenders squad used tear gas to flush a man out of a house in south Waikato after police spent three and a half hours negotiating with him on Tuesday night.
Police were called to Scotia Glen, Putaruru, just before 7.30pm where a man, 45, told them he had a firearm and intended to harm himself.
The property was cordoned off while police spent three and a half hours negotiating with him to surrender.
When this failed, the armed offenders squad fired tear gas into the house, prompting the man to give himself up within minutes.
