Hotline set up to dob in taggers

12:45 pm on 26 February 2009

Manukau City Council has launched a dedicated phone line for people to dob in taggers.

The '0800 STOP TAGS' number is for residents to report the details of a tagger such as the vehicle involved or a person's address.

Private investigators will run the line and the information will be confidential.

The council says many school students, neighbours, parents and business-owners have information about taggers but do not know who to contact.

Manukau councillor Dick Quax says says all information will be treated as confidential and the council may offer rewards for information that leads to prosecution.
