Impasse over consequences of slip

10:27 am on 3 March 2009

North Shore residents whose fear their homes are threatened by a landslip say lack of council action is threatening their health.

Two houses in Mulberry Place in Glenfield were evacuated last July after a slip and three neighbouring properties are also in danger.

Residents are asking the North Shore City Council to purchase their properties and demolish the houses.

They are also asking the council to release a geotechnical report on the slip.

One of the residents, Kathy Torkington, says heavy rain on Friday brought down two trees on the property, and worsened large cracks in the driveway.

Mayor Andrew Williams says the council has offered to go into mediation with the residents, but they have declined.
