An elderly woman in Hamilton has fought off an intruder at her home with a rolling pin.
The woman, in her 70s, was awoken by a youth banging on her door, claiming he lived there.
She called police. But when the youth smashed a glass panel in the door and put his head through, she hit him with the rolling pin, three times.
Police say that when they arrived, a 15-year-old crying youth was so embarrassed he virtually leapt into the patrol car.
He has been released on bail to his parents care and referred to Youth Aid.
