Heritage Society interested in buying Hillary home

The Remuera Heritage Society has expressed an interest in the home of Sir Edmund Hillary.

The house in Remuera, valued at almost $2 million, is to be auctioned in two weeks.

Society chairman Terry Sutcliffe says it would like to see the house and grounds used as a precinct dedicated to the memory of Sir Edmund.

He says managing the house is in keeping with the society's view to protect and preserve Remuera's heritage.

Mr Sutcliffe says the society will meet on Friday to formalise its vision for the house.
