Patrons at a Rotorua TAB which was held up at gunpoint on Thursday night chased the person who threatened staff and made off with cash.
Police say a person jumped the counter at the Kingsgate TAB and threatened staff with a handgun.
A small amount of cash was taken from the till.
Customers in the TAB at the time gave chase, but lost the person in the Fenton Park area.
Police described the person they are looking for as skinny, approximately 1.8m tall and wearing a grey sweatshirt, a blue T-shirt and dark glasses.
