Consent problems delay Ponsonby project

Resource consent problems could further delay the stalled construction of a contentious development in the central Auckland suburb of Ponsonby.

The Soho Square development was put on hold in November after a panel of independent commissioners dismissed plans to extend it.

Development company Marlin Group was denied resource consent to almost double height and floor space limits under the district plan.

Auckland City Council appeals manager Robert Andrews says discussions between the council and Marlin Group could take some time.

Mr Andrews says the matter will go to an Environment Court hearing if there is no settlement, which could take at least six months.
