New homes wanted for geese at botanic gardens

9:57 am on 11 March 2009

A growing gaggle of geese at the Auckland Botanic Gardens is proving to be a growing headache.

Staff want to find new homes for some of the 30 birds living in the gardens.

They have put out a call for anyone with spare rural land to consider giving some of them a new home.

Botanic Gardens manager Jack Hobbs says up until now the birds could be managed, but staff don't feel they have the expertise to take care of them.

Staff will capture the geese themselves and deliver them to their new home.

But potential hosts will need to demonstrate their property is suitable, for the geese to call home.
