Rock music and politics have been to the fore at Womad 2009 in New Plymouth.
Organisers estimate more than 30,000 people have passed through the gates over the weekend.
Radio New Zealand's reporter at the festival says many of the 200 performers made forthright statements about land, language and law.
He said Algeria's Mehdi Haddab, of Speed Caravan, called his electric arabic lute a Kalishnikov machine-gun, and Nigerian Seun Kuti talked of politics beneath Shell Oil's spotlit sponsor's banner.
