Pilot course in marae catering

9:03 am on 18 March 2009

A group of Papakura High School students is learning the kai hunting and gathering ways of their ancestors as part of a marae catering course their school is offering.

Waatea News reports 20 students are in a pilot course looking at the skills, knowledge and tikanga required to cook traditional food on a wharekai.

Head of hospitality Gaynor Matthews says the students are preparing for a national junior hospitality competition next month, using Maori kai recipes and methods they have learnt.
