Union critical of Nelson Pine over redundancy process

A union is critical of Nelson Pine Industries over its handling of redundancies at the plant.

The company announced this month it will lay off about 60 personnel because of a slump in worldwide demand for its products.

The National Distribution Union says the company is refusing to let people know if they have jobs or not because it wants to keep its options open.

It says that's left some jobs in limbo.

However, Nelson Pine managing director Murray Sturgeon says discussions with employees have been amicable and 20 have already opted to take redundancy.
